Heat Pump Installation

Heat Pump Installation in Hartford

Properly Sized Systems for Year-Round Home Comfort

A successful project starts with equipment selected for the home rather than a one-size-fits-all recommendation. At All American Heating & Air Conditioning, we install and replace heat pump systems for Hartford homeowners, using Manual J calculations to determine the appropriate size.

We’ve served homeowners throughout Connecticut with heat pump installation, repair, and replacement services since 1987. Our licensed and insured technicians provide upfront estimates at no cost and explain the proposed equipment and work before you move forward.

Heat Pump Sizing for Hartford’s Cold Weather

Heat pumps transfer heat between indoor and outdoor spaces instead of creating it through combustion. During winter, the system draws available heat from the outdoor air and moves it inside. Correct equipment selection and accurate load calculations help determine whether the system can maintain indoor comfort as temperatures fall.

We perform a Manual J calculation, an industry method for estimating how much heating and cooling a home needs. It accounts for the home’s square footage, insulation, ceiling height, and local climate. This provides a sound basis for sizing rather than relying only on the capacity of the existing equipment.

Cold-climate performance depends on the selected equipment and the heating load it must meet. A cold-climate designation isn’t a substitute for proper sizing, so a detailed load calculation remains essential when planning the system.

Ducted Systems

A ducted system distributes conditioned air through existing or newly installed ductwork. The estimate identifies the equipment and configuration appropriate for the home. The condition and layout of the ductwork may affect the project’s scope and timing.

Ductless Systems

A ductless system uses individual indoor air handlers and doesn’t require central ductwork. This configuration can serve homes without ducts or areas designed for individual indoor units. We assess the home before recommending a ducted or ductless arrangement.

2026 Energize CT Heat Pump Incentives

Qualifying residential electric customers of Eversource or United Illuminating may be eligible for incentives on qualifying projects. The 2026 Residential Air Source Heat Pump Incentive offers $250 per ton, up to a combined maximum of $2,500 per home, for eligible air source heat pumps in specified project types.

Projects replacing oil, propane, natural gas, or electric resistance heat are evaluated under the Residential Energy Optimization Incentive. Eligibility depends on the customer’s utility territory, project type, equipment, and any required verification. Incentive approval and the final amount aren’t guaranteed.

Important 2026 program details include:

  • Equipment requirements: The heat pump must appear on the Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List.
  • Utility requirements: The installation must serve a residential Eversource or United Illuminating electric customer within participating utility territory.
  • Capacity calculation: For rebate purposes, one ton equals 12,000 BTUs of Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute cooling capacity.
  • Program dates: Eligible equipment must be purchased and installed from January 1 through December 31, 2026.
  • Application deadline: Mail-in applications must be postmarked by February 27, 2027.

For installations completed on or after April 1, 2026, qualifying electric-baseboard replacement projects and income-qualified projects may receive enhanced incentives of up to $1,500 per ton. These incentives require pre-installation verification and compliance with the applicable program rules.

Smart-E Loan financing has also been available through Energize Connecticut for qualifying home-energy projects. Availability, eligibility, rates, and other terms can change, so homeowners should confirm current requirements when planning a project.

When to Consider Heat Pump Replacement in Hartford

Most units last 15 to 20 years with regular maintenance, but age alone doesn’t determine whether replacement is appropriate. The system’s condition, repair needs, comfort performance, and the equipment required for the home all factor into the decision.

Frequent repairs, uneven heating or cooling, persistent comfort problems, and declining performance are reasons to request an evaluation. These signs don’t automatically mean the system needs replacement, but they provide useful context for assessing its condition.

A new load calculation can also show whether the existing capacity still suits the home. Changes to insulation, finished space, or other building characteristics can affect heating and cooling needs, so we don’t assume the replacement should match the old unit.

What to Expect During Installation

Your project begins with an upfront estimate. We assess the home, complete the required load calculation, and identify the equipment size and project plan suited to your needs. We explain the proposed scope clearly so you can review it before deciding how to proceed.

A straightforward replacement usually takes four to eight hours. A more complex installation can take a full day or longer, depending on the scope and the work needed to prepare the home. We’ll explain the expected timeframe based on what we identify during the estimate.
